Choosing a VPS plan
What do CPU, memory and storage change?
A larger plan is only useful when its resources match the software you run.
Every workload uses a VPS differently. A database may need more memory and fast storage, while an application with several workers may benefit more from additional CPU. Look at what the software is doing before choosing the largest number on the page.
Allow space for the operating system and anything running beside the main service. A control panel, database, cache, monitoring agent and backup job all use resources even when they are not the reason you ordered the server.
Start with sensible headroom rather than filling the VPS on day one. Resources can be increased where the selected platform supports it, while a workload that regularly needs the whole host is better suited to dedicated hardware.
